Ambassador Szemerkényi's invitation to the dedication of
the Hungarian Chapel at the Basilica of the National
Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.
Dear Members of the Hungarian American Community:
I am pleased to write to you as the new Hungarian
Ambassador to the United States, a post which I have
been honored to fill for nearly half a year. During this
time I have had the pleasure of visiting many
Hungarian-American communities, where I have greeted old
friends and have made new ones. These encounters have
strengthened my long-held conviction that all of us
share an important mission: to preserve our wonderful
Hungarian culture in the United States. We can only be
successful to pass our rich cultural heritage to our
children if we work together effectively. Let me assure
you that you can always count on the support of Hungary
as well as me in this endeavor.
It gives me great pleasure to tell you now that after
ten years of committed work, including generous
financial support from many Hungarian-Americans, the
Hungarian Catholic Church, and the participation of the
Government of Hungary, a new Hungarian cultural treasure
has been created in Washington, DC.
Please join us for a special celebration
The Dedication of the Hungarian Chapel
at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception
On Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 2 p.m.
400 Michigan Ave NE, Washington, DC 20017
The Chapel will be consecrated by His Eminence Cardinal
Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom and His Eminence
Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington. The
event will also be attended by Dr.László Kövér, Speaker
of the Hungarian National Assembly as well as Miklós
Soltész, State Secretary in charge of Church relations
as our special guests from Hungary. Following the mass
and the dedication ceremony, you are also cordially
invited to a celebratory Hungarian feast and picnic.
I invite and urge all Hungarian Americans regardless of
religious affiliation to participate in what will
certainly be an inspiring and memorable event.
Let’s share in the joy and let’s make this new Chapel in
Washington a true Hungarian place of pilgrimage!
I hope to meet you personally and welcome you among our
guests,
with warmest regards,
Dr. Réka Szemerkényi
